About the SE-FIT Software

SE-FIT was developed by personnel at IRPI and is made freely available for the research community. While no longer under active development, it remains a useful tool for Surface Evolver based modeling and is still used by researchers and engineers worldwide. IRPI specializes in capillary fluidics, wetting phenomena, propellant management device (PMD) design, microgravity fluid mechanics, and lab-on-a-chip development — the kinds of problems where Surface Evolver modeling is most valuable.

Installation Instructions

System Requirements: SE-FIT Software is built on the .NET framework and requires a Windows-based operating system.

  1. SE-FIT is distributed as a .zip archive. Extract it using any standard tool such as the built-in Windows extractor, WinRAR, or 7-Zip.
  2. Extract the contents to a writable directory and you’re ready to go. To update an existing installation, run setup.exe from the extracted files.
  3. For best results, install SE-FIT to a root-level path such as C:\SE-FIT. Installing to protected directories like Program Files (x86) will require running SE-FIT.exe as an administrator, and may cause crashes if write access is restricted.
  4. If the OpenGL graphical window does not appear on first launch, click “RESET” on the toolbar.
